World’s Largest Quran display by Pakistani artist at Dubai Expo

Work on the “Greatest Qur’an in the World” is underway in Karachi, Pakistan. This Qur’an is not written but scraped on canvas. Artist Shahid Rasam has been working on the Qur’an for many years, part of which will be on display at the Dubai Expo .

According to  UAE news Agency Khaleej Times, the first-of-its-kind project of the Holy Quran will be cast on a canvas with aluminum and gold-plated script. It added that it would be the first time in Islamic history that such a big sized scripture shall be presented.

Traditionally, the Holy Quran has been inscribed on either paper, cloth, or leather, so far, however Shahid Rassam, a Pakistani and former UAE expat is taking this a step further.

He is an award-winning artist who has won various international recognitions for his works, began this project five years back, and will showcase only a part of it on the six-month long expo in Dubai.

Being named artist of the year more than two decades ago in 2000 by University of Al Ain in UAE, Rassam has done related projects like inscribing 99 names of Allah with aluminum and gold-plated words.

An artist associated with the project being developed in Karachi told Khaleej Times, “Excluding frame, the size of the Holy Quran is 8.5-foot tall and 6.5-foot wide. It will have 150 words on one page total number of pages are 550.”

According to the Guinness World Records, the largest printed Quran measures 6.74 feet in height, 4.11 feet in width, and 6.69 inches in thickness. The copy has a total of 632 pages and weighs 552.74kg.
