The British government apologizes for further extension of Nawaz Sharif's visa

The UK Home Office has rejected the visa extension request of former Pakistani Prime Minister and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif.

Nawaz Sharif had requested the British government to extend his visa on medical grounds at the end of his six-month stay, but it was rejected by the British immigration authorities.

PML-N spokesperson Maryam Aurangzeb has confirmed that the British Home Office has apologized for further extension of Nawaz Sharif's visa. The decision of the British Home Department states that Nawaz Sharif can appeal against this decision to the Immigration Tribunal.

Pakistan's Information and Broadcasting Minister Fawad Chaudhry says Nawaz Sharif is not ill at the moment.

According to Fawad Chaudhry, Nawaz Sharif got the visa by lying and on the same visa he was residing in UK. The Government of Pakistan, the people and the Pakistani community demanded that the British Government not grant asylum to those involved in the corruption of billions of rupees.

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was granted medical bail by the Islamabad High Court for eight weeks in October 2019 and had gone to the UK for treatment.

The government allowed them to go abroad on humanitarian grounds. Nawaz Sharif has been residing in London since November 19, 2019 after being granted bail by the courts.

According to PML-N spokesperson Maryam Aurangzeb, the Home Department has apologized for Nawaz Sharif's request for visa extension, on which Nawaz Sharif's lawyers have filed an appeal with the British Immigration Tribunal.

According to him, the Home Office order will remain ineffective until the decision on the appeal filed in the British Immigration Tribunal. Until an appeal is decided, Nawaz Sharif can stay in the UK legally.

According to a statement issued by PML-N, party president and opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif contacted Nawaz Sharif on telephone and discussed the decision of the British Home Department.

According to the statement, Nawaz Sharif informed Shahbaz Sharif about the legal action. And Nawaz Sharif said that his lawyers have filed an appeal against the decision. The appeal stated the reasons for Nawaz Sharif's stay in the UK due to medical reasons and treatment.

Shahbaz Sharif urged Nawaz Sharif to stay in the UK till he gets full treatment and permission from doctors.

In this regard, government spokesman Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry said that the British government has refused to extend Nawaz Sharif's medical visa.

He said that Nawaz Sharif had obtained visa from Britain by lying. The government of Pakistan demanded from the British government not to give shelter to those involved in corruption worth billions of rupees.

Fawad Chaudhry said that Nawaz Sharif has a way to go to Pakistan's embassy in Britain. There, they will be provided with temporary travel documents on which they can travel to Pakistan.

The Federal Information Minister said that Nawaz Sharif would go to jail in Pakistan and face the cases filed against him.

He added that the second option was to appeal against the British government's decision, but that the appeal would be rejected. Because they have no ground.

He claimed that Nawaz Sharif was not ill. Sometimes they go to hotels and sometimes they go for walks. He is also lying to the British authorities and such a lie could lead to a case against him there as well. Nawaz Sharif should get temporary travel documents and come back to face the cases.

He said that Imran Khan and PTI have no enmity with Nawaz Sharif. The problem is that they have looted billions of rupees from Pakistan and fled the country. This money must be brought back to Pakistan. When they return to the country, they should return the stolen money and then of course stay at home. The only way out is to return the stolen money or go to jail.

On Fawad Chaudhry's statement, Maryam Aurangzeb said in a message on social media that Nawaz Sharif would stay in the UK while fulfilling the legal requirements. Nawaz Sharif will remain in the UK until he is treated and doctors do not give him permission.

Maryam Aurangzeb said that it is the turn of those who are not afraid of corruption and inflation to go to jail. Despite the false allegations, Nawaz Sharif returned home with his daughter Maryam Nawaz and went to jail. According to him, he does not need anyone's advice.

What options does Nawaz Sharif have?

Barrister Amjad Malik, a senior lawyer working in the UK, told VOA that Nawaz Sharif's visa extension application has just been rejected, but he still has many options.

He said that Nawaz Sharif's lawyers have filed an appeal in this case and the hearing of this appeal alone could take six months to a year. If the appeal in the immigration tribunal is also rejected, then Nawaz Sharif can file an appeal in the high courts.

Barrister Amjad Malik added that Nawaz Sharif could inform the tribunal about the grounds for extending his visa. The statements of Nawaz Sharif's doctors can play an important role in this regard.

He said that so far the government of Pakistan has not made any effort to extradite Nawaz Sharif or bring him back to the country through Interpol. If the government of Pakistan makes such an appeal, this matter will also be looked into separately. Once the appeal is filed, their stay will be legal until the hearing is completed.

Asked about the expiration of Nawaz Sharif's passport, Amjad Malik said that according to British immigration law, it does not matter if the passport expires, because when he first applies for a visa, he is eligible for it. Must have valid passport. A copy is provided with the application but does not require an extension or a usable passport for court proceedings. Nawaz Sharif will need a passport to travel to Pakistan or any other country. They may also be given travel documents to return to Pakistan.

Barrister Amjad Malik said that Nawaz Sharif's family has so far completely refused to seek political asylum and announced that they want to go to Pakistan after treatment, but Nawaz Sharif still has a lot of options.

He said his son is a British passport holder if his visa extension application was rejected on medical grounds and he could get a visa if he applied for a visa in support of his father. In addition, there are statements from the government of Pakistan that his passport has not been renewed. Therefore, if Nawaz Sharif requests to be stateless on humanitarian grounds, action can be taken against him.

He said that Nawaz Sharif could also approach the courts on the issue of Pakistani courts and Arshad Malik. He expressed the view that Nawaz Sharif would not have to apply for political asylum. They have a lot of options.

Amjad Malik said that Nawaz Sharif's appeal is likely to be processed for a year. In such a situation, it seems difficult for them to return to Pakistan immediately.
