Prominent Pakistani journalist and analyst Arif Nizami died at a local hospital in Lahore on Wednesday.
Arif Nizami had been ill for the past two weeks and was undergoing treatment at the hospital. Political, social and journalistic circles of Pakistan have expressed deep sorrow and grief over his demise.
Arif Nizami was one of the prominent journalists in Pakistan. He was the founder and editor of the English daily Pakistan Today. He was also the President of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE), an association of newspaper editors in Pakistan. He also held the post of caretaker Information Minister in 2013.
Arif Nizam was the son of Hameed Nizami, founder of Nawa-e-Waqt Media Group. Prior to the launch of Pakistan Today, he was also the editor of The Nation, an English-language newspaper of the same group.
Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan has said in a tweet that he is saddened to hear of the death of senior journalist, editor and political analyst Arif Nizami. His prayers and sympathies are with the family of the deceased.
