The International Cricket Council (ICC) has named Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam as the best ODI cricketer of the year for 2021.
The award was given to Babar Azam for scoring 405 runs at an average of 67.05 in six ODIs last year. His performance includes two centuries.
Apart from Babar Azam, Bangladesh's all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, South Africa's Janiman Milan and Ireland's Paul Sterling were also in the running for the Player of the Year award.
Babar Azam's performance in 2021, which earned him the Player of the Year award, includes notable performances in the series against South Africa and England.
Last year, Pakistan won the three-match ODI series 1-2 against South Africa. In the matches in which the Pakistan team won, Babar was named the best player of the match.
Babar Azam was the second highest run scorer in the series against South Africa. He scored a total of 228 runs in three matches.
Pakistan chased down a target of 274 in the first ODI against South Africa in which Babar Azam's brilliant century played a key role in the victory of the Green Shirts. In the third ODI against the Proteas, Babar played an innings of 94 off 82 balls.
Performance against England
Against England last year, although Pakistan could not win any match in the three-match series, but Babar's aggressive batting must have made the competition thrilling.
Babar had scored a total of 177 runs in all three matches against England. Apart from Babar, no Pakistani batsman has done well in this series.
